Laura Abernethy

Ms. Abernethy, the director of Crescendo, is in her first year as the choral director at Wiley Middle School.  For the past six years, she was the music specialist at Ashley Elementary School.  She is also the past chairperson of the elementary section and, for the past four years, was the chairperson of the Elementary All County Chorus.  She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Meredith College and a Master of Arts in Church Music from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.  As a performer, Ms. Abernethy sings with the NC School of the Arts Cantata Singers, Winston-Salem Symphony Chorale, Piedmont Chamber Singers and the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church choir and plays clarinet in the Piedmont Wind Symphony.  She also appeared as Mother Abbess in Centenary United Methodist’s production of “The Sound of Music.”
